Being Human Discussion

Black Board Discussion

Humanity cannot be looked at or evaluated through an individual or internal lens. In order to fully understand what it means to be human, we can’t just look at the different special qualities we have obtained. The basic premise for our humanity is the way we act as a collective. The reason for not being able to define humanity based on our individual ways is because all of these different “special powers” are socially defined, meaning it is a society that deems what is a special mental power. This approach is flawed because humans cannot create such a definition of what they are by what society has deemed. What it means to be human is the way we as a species share resources as a collective in order to survive. Things we carry out as a group and not what we do are individuals. Each species differ based on how they interact with each other and how they share resources with one another, not necessarily what different mental attributes they have. If humans were the only species to share resources by conflict then this is what would make us human. What makes us Hunan isn’t a huge philosophical question that one might think it is, for the question is simply what makes us human based on what’s around us. This text offers a very simple and concrete answer to what makes us Human.
